How do I use our two Yahoo e-groups?

HT_members@yahoogroups.com     As a participant or a prospective member of HT, you are automatically enrolled in the HT_members Yahoo e-group.  (An e-group is simply an e-mail group.)   That group is only for Havurat Tikvah business (such as announcements for weekly HT activities, minyan, chicken soup. special HT sponsored events, etc.)  See the next group for sending out other stuff.  When you receive a message in the HT_members group, if you press reply, only the sender will normally receive your reply.   If you want to send out something where replies go to everyone, give me a call prior to sending it out and we'll figure out the best way to get it to happen.

One technical point or two:  when you send a message to HT_members, make HT_members the ONLY recipient for that e-mail.  Do NOT include another address separated by a comma.   For example, do NOT write to "fakename@whoknowswhere.com, HT_members@yahoogroups.com" in the same box--that will confuse the Yahoo system, you will get unpredictable results, and Uncle Max the Hanukah Man may take you off his list for next year.

HT_discussion@yahoogroups.com     The second group (HT_discussion) is a group for all the other stuff:  announcements of community (non-HT) films and other events, discussions or links to interesting media articles, holiday e-cards, or anything else that comes to mind.  When you reply to this group, EVERYONE in this group gets your response.  At the moment, each person is encouraged to join that group--it's fun, but it's totally optional.  To enroll, just send an e-mail from the e-mail address you want to use to HT_discussion-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .  You can of course unsubscribe at any point you wish.   There is a thought going around about enrolling everybody to make it easier and encouraging them to opt-out if they wish, but that has not been done.

What do I do if I'm suddenly not receiving HT_members mailings?

The rather neurotic Yahoo system drops names occasionally for no apparent reason.  To confirm you're still on the social register or on our e-mail list, write to me at director@supportworks.org with the pertinent data (your full name, e-mail address and phone).  I'll take care of things from that point.

How should I organize a new activity for HT?

Spontaneously arranged activities are always encouraged.  If you are thinking about organizing an activity for HT, it's best to talk with one of the Rosh(es) before sending out e-mails to get help and to avoid date or time conflicts.  You can contact Ellen Myers or David Holloman by phone.

Do we have a proper e-mail etiquette?

We're not formal, but we now have a relatively large group so not everyone knows everybody else by first name.  When you are sending out an e-mail, be sure to sign it with your full name.  If you are sending out a HT_members e-mail and want replies, be sure to remind people in your letter to press the REPLY button to have those replies go right back to you.

Changing your contact information?  Need Yahrzeit notification?

Changing your e-mail or phone or address?  Are you a new member wanting to include loved ones in our Yahrzeit notification "system".  Please send me a personal e-mail at director@supportworks.org .  Be sure to include the old and new data along with your full name.  For Yahrzeits I'll need to know the full name of the loved one, the relationship and to whom (e.g., beloved father of Mary Sue Goldfarbberger), the date of passing, and whether or not you'd like me to use the Hebrew or English calendar.

No longer involved in Havurat Tikvah?

If you are a prospective member or ex-member and no longer want to receive these mailings from HT_members, just reply to this e-mail and let me know.  Be sure to include your full name and e-mail address.
